Domaine Pégau is located in Chateauneuf du Pape and is one of the flagship estates of this appellation. It was Laurence Féraud, daughter of Paul Féraud, who proposed to her parents in 1987 to create an estate named Pégau by separating 7 hectares of vineyard from the Féraud and son estate. From now on, the estate has 21 ha of vines in the AOC Chateauneuf du Pape and also 41 ha of vineyards in the AOC Cotes du Rhone (but the Cotes du Rhone are produced under the Château Pégau label). The wines of the Pégau estate are deep and generous, and they improve and mature with age. The grapes are generally harvested at high maturity and vinified in whole bunches.  The range of Pégau Chateauneuf du Pape wines includes 4 very fine cuvées in red wines and 2 in white wines.

The Pégau estate in the Rhone Valley produces a very famous cuvée called Da Capo, which represents the peak of its production from a selection of old vines partly from the Crau area. Da Capo is aged for 2 years in old tuns, and gives an exceptional wine, very dense and powerful, with persistent aromas of black fruits and liquorice. Its rarity makes it a cult wine, sought after by wine lovers all over the world. It is best to wait 10 to 15 years. The Pegau Chateauneuf du Pape cuvée Laurence is a selection of a single 30 to 50 hl cask from the cuvée Réservée (generally the best). This cuvée is matured for a longer period of time, at least 24 months; this cuvée generally does not undergo the period of closure that other wines from the Pegau estate may undergo, and it has scents of the garrigue and delicate aromas of spicy stone fruits and Bresse meat. On the palate, the Laurence Pegau cuvée is dense, with magnificent flesh, a large volume and very beautiful elegance. The Pegau Chateauneuf cuvée Réservée red is more traditional and classic, and of good ageing potential, whereas in white, the Châteauneuf offers a dynamic mouthfeel and develops a nice perfume of fennel, salty and persistent in the mouth. There is no doubt about the quality of the wines of the Pégau estate, and this estate is therefore among the best in the appellation. We will take care to wait a few years (7 to 12 years) before tasting the different cuvée, in order to enjoy them at their best. Use and dry at the end of the mouth.

A singed chestnut accent leads off here, followed by a sappy core of steeped cherry, raspberry and plum fruit, infused liberally with tobacco, brick dust and garrigue notes. Reveals a brawny edge, but there’s ample fruit in the end. A rock-solid old-school style that should cruise in the cellar. Best from 2021 through 2040. - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator

A wine that’s going to rival or surpass the 2015, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée shows the quality of this awesome vintage with its deep, powerful, concentrated style. While Laurence says her 2015s remind her of her 2010s, I find a certain 2010-like purity in this wine as well as killer notes of black raspberries, blueberries, garrigue, and pepper. Possessing both power and finesse, full body, sweet tannins, and a great finish, don’t miss this beauty. - Jeb Dunnuck

Still in foudres, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is even more impressive than it was last year. It's still firmly tannic, but the fruit seems to be growing in stature, adding volume and richness sufficient to round out the tannins. This full-bodied, concentrated wine offers hints of mocha and raspberries, but it seems a bit more monolithic than the 2015 at the moment. - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate
