Veneto

Veneto is a rich Italian wine region. It nevertheless enjoys a fine reputation and a remarkable variety of wines.

If we try to make a list of Veneto wines, we can divide this region into three distinct zones :

To the west, there are the vineyards of Valpolicella and Western Veneto located between Lake Garda and Verona and the Terre della Garganega. It is on this territory that the Amarone was born, which some consider to be the greatest Italian wine.

In the centre of Veneto are the Breganze vineyards, the Berici Hills and the Euganei Hills. The Suave with its straw-yellow colour and the Garganega grape variety in majority (70%) is produced here.

Finally in Eastern Veneto, there are the Prosecco and Piave hills to the north of Venice.

The fame of the sparkling white Prosecco (also produced in the neighbouring vineyard of Friuli Venezia Giulia) goes beyond the Italian borders. But many of the best wines of Italy are produced in the Venetian territory. Examples include Soave, Bardolino, Recioto, Amarone, Torcolato, Prosecco, Tocai Rosso, Garganega, Valpolicella Ripasso, Verduzzo, Raboso, Moscato, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Nero, Pinot Grigio, and Merlot. Very few Italian regions offer as many DOCG and DOC wines as this great wine-growing and wine-producing region.
