Champagne, also known as vin de Champagne, is a French sparkling wine protected by an appellation d'origine contrôlée, the regulation of which required several centuries of gestation. Its name comes from Champagne, a region in northeastern France. The geographical delimitation, the grape varieties, the yields and the whole elaboration of the champagne are the main specificities of the appellation.
